Bright colors and noble materials. At the “Living kitchen” fair in Cologne the kitchen industry showed how colorful 2013 will be. The KüchenAtlas-team was at the fair and shows you the highlights of the “Living kitchen”. (Artikel auf Deutsch lesen)
The fair is part of the “imm cologne”, an international fair for furniture and interior design. From the 14th to the 20th January over 180 producers of kitchen and electrical equipment presented their novelties to the audience. The visitors from all over the world were amazed of the designs and after nearly one week over 43 000 people had visited the Living kitchen 2013.
Color is king
Our first example is a countertop produced by Lechner. The powerful colors and the checked pattern are just one example of colorful kitchens at the Living kitchen 2013.
But the countertop is not the only extraordinary detail. Also the position of the cooktops is new, because there is nothing between the flame and the countertop.
Pink kitchen?
With best regards from “Hello Kitty”. This kitchen in pink is not for everyone. But it shows that the kitchen industry can offer kitchens in nearly every color – also in pink.
This kitchen definitely was an exception at the living kitchen 2013. But natural and bright colors are becoming increasingly popular. Our next example is from the German company LEICHT. The color is called “curcuma“and it is based on the color of the tropical plant Turmeric.
Combined with wooden elements it fits to nearly every home. “Curcuma” is used for modern kitchens and people who want fresh colors in their flat.
Noble, elegant, marble – Extraordinary fronts
Marble still is one of the most expensive materials you can use in your kitchen. On the other hand marble is a very exclusive stone und very noble. This kitchen from eggersmann is completely out of marble. This uniform design seems to become very popular in the coming years. So this luxury kitchen could just be the start.
Barrier-free oven
But design is not everything. The manufacturers also take care for challenged persons. The door of this oven disappears in the body. Loading and cleaning of this oven is as easy as possible. Especially for wheelchair users a very useful invention that makes daily life much easier.
As you can see on the picture, this oven from Neff is installed higher than normal ones. So it can easily be loaded without to bend down.
Adjustable countertop
Also a great idea is that kitchen countertop that is adjustable for height. At the push of a button the countertop drives up and down automatically. Perfect for families where people with a different body height are cooking.
This technique isn’t new, but after a few years it’s now less expensive and ready to conquer the kitchen.
Also an interesting element is the design of this countertop. This kind of “used style” is usually known from jeans and is now showed also in kitchens.
Servo Drive for the fridge
A fingertip and the door of the fridge opens. Modern engines make it possible. The technique is not new, because it is used in kitchen furniture since years. The electric door opening system is now also available for refrigerators. So far, the doors of these appliances were too hard to make them open to the servo-drive system.
You can see the little engine bottom right. This little helper now submits tapping the door with your finger and the door of the cabinet moves towards the user automatically. Especially for loading with full hands, this system is suitable.
New Colors!
You have an old kitchen? You don’t want to renovate all the furniture? Then take a look at these colorful refrigerators from Bosch. Available in different colors these electric devices will be a blur of color in your old kitchen.

Summary
The kitchen was of course not reinvented. However, 2013, the time of monochrome kitchens are apparently over. Individual patterns and bright colors are in fashion this year and probably will be with us in the coming years.
Technological progress has also continued to move into the kitchen of modernity. Electronic door opening system, height-adjustable work surfaces are probably just the beginning. We are anxious to see what innovations are expected in the coming years.
